Motor Vehicle Records

(MVR)

ChoicePoint provides motor vehicle records (MVR) from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, with additional service for several Canadian provinces and Puerto Rico. In order to make the information provided by the various motor vehicle agencies easier to evaluate and use, ChoicePoint offers a Standard Violation Code (SVC®) service. This service allows customers to program their systems to process new and renewal business through a uniform violation reporting structure, providing a significant increase in efficiency for participating customers.

Service is available via batch in all jurisdictions, and as an interactive, real-time service at the point of sale in 47 U.S. jurisdictions, New Brunswick and Ontario.


  • Single interface to all state Departments of Motor Vehicles.
  • Standard input and output record format.

In accordance with laws and/or contracts in certain states, ChoicePoint must require companies to complete Motor Vehicle Report authorization forms for the applicable states. Please click here for more information about which states require the authorization form to be completed.

ChoicePoint also provides additional MVR services, where available.

  • MVR database services are available in several states where ChoicePoint purchases a copy of the complete state MVR database. These database MVRs are provided to carriers at a substantial savings over DMV registry.
  • MVR Activity Files are available to assist insurance carriers in identifying drivers with actionable activity within a variety of time periods. Some files are offered as an additional service for Current Carrier and PolicyWatch customers.
